Lotus hope to start the European season with a victory – Formula 1 news
Lotus team principal, Eric Boullier has said that they are hoping to start the European season with a victory after making some significant developments in their car, E21.
The Enstone based squad have taken an incredible start to the 2013 Formula 1 season. They are currently standing at second position in the constructions’ championship with 93 points. Furthermore, they are ahead of their major opponent, Ferrari and behind
the defending champions, Red Bull Racing.
Besides, their driver Kimi Raikkonen is also standing at second place in the drivers’ championship with 67 points and is just 10 points behind the three-time world champion, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull. The Finn has performed tremendously well in the season
so far and has managed to secure two podiums and one race victory. Although, his teammate, Romain Grosjean struggled with his pace in the first three rounds of the season, but came up really strong in the Bahrain Grand Prix with an updated car and secured
an inspiring third podium finish.
Boullier has said that they are feeling very pleased with their development process and are targeting to perform well in the season ahead. Moreover, he said that there is plenty more to come from them in the forthcoming races.
“This is just another aspect of the sport,” Boullier said. “We have a strong development programme for the E21 and I'm confident we can continue to improve it through the year, just as we did with the E20 before it. Most teams tend to bring a fairly major
upgrade package to the first European race of the season and we'll be no exception. I'm very pleased with how the development of this car is progressing and I think there's plenty more to come from us.”
He also stated that the competition is very tough and they have to keep on working hard in order to secure competitive results in the season ahead. In addition, he said that they are looking forward to win the Spanish GP which is going to be held at Circuit
de Catalunya in Barcelona on May 12, 2013.
“Of course, it would be fantastic to start our European season with a win,” he added.
