Lotus might sign Bruno Senna for 2011 season
Ayrton Senna’s nephew, Bruno Senna had joined Formula 1 this year with HRT but his contract is set to expire by the end of this year since he had signed a 1 year contract.
Reports suggest that the young Brazilian is currently in talks with Lotus about a possible move to the team for the 2011 Formula 1 season.
The HRT driver was expected to be one of the “next big things” but he had a disappointing season as HRT also debuted this season and the team struggled. On the other hand, Lotus had been in the Formula 1 since 1958 but was dismissed in 1994 before returning
once again in the 2010 season.
Lotus is one of the most historic teams in the sport and it has 7 championships to its credit but the team struggled this season after its return. Still, Lotus has been the best team out of the 3 new teams on the grid and therefore, it is expected to return
in a strong position for the 2011 season.
Bruno Senna has had a tough debut in the sport with HRT and it was quite unprofessional of the team as they were juggling Sakon Yamamoto, Karun Chandhok and Bruno Senna throughout the season.
There were rumours a couple of weeks ago that Jarno Trulli’s seat in the team is not secure yet and if Bruno joins Lotus, the team will once again have the same situation as it did back in the 80s containing Renault, Lotus and a Senna.
“Bruno Senna is close to getting something better. He is in talks with Lotus and these talks are already well advanced”, said a report.
Bruno Senna is currently in the tail end of the drivers’ standings with no points at all this season in 16 out of the 19 races. HRT is in the same situation in the constructors’ standings but the team hopes to improve next season with or without Senna.
However, the only problem Senna is expected to face in signing with Lotus is the finalization of his sponsors along with several companies that are underway.
