Lotus naming rights’ friction finally cools down
Team Lotus Racing will not issue further press releases about the naming rights dispute between the team and Group Lotus until a decision has been made regarding this matter.
Group Lotus will terminate the F1 team’s naming licence by the end of this years' Formula 1 season and as a result, Tony Fernandes has purchased the rights to name his team as Lotus from 2011 onwards. The two sides are set to make a trip to the London High
Court after the news led to an escalating row between the two parties.
Lotus racing said that it’s Deputy Team Principal Dato’ Kamarudin Meranun met Tun Dr Mahathir, Proton advisor and former Malaysian Prime Minister to discuss the issue. The team will not make further comments regarding this matter until the contentious issues
have been resolved.
“In a bid to alleviate the public confusion surrounding the ongoing matter between Lotus Racing and Proton / Group Lotus, Lotus Racing shareholder and Deputy Team Principal recently had the opportunity to meet Proton Adviser,” claimed the press release.
The meeting was held to discuss this matter in person and come to an agreement regarding the future course of action for Lotus Racing.
Lotus Racing believes that it knows its limits and is acting within its own rights as a result this meeting. The team hopes to refrain from releasing another press release regarding this matter as heightened media attention is adding to the woes.
“We are very grateful for having had the opportunity to put forth our case and have complete trust that a fair review will be made, and a decision on the matter will be announced in due course,” the press release added.
The press has been around Lotus Racing since the past couple of days after the team announced this problem. Critics are sure that this matter will be taken to the high court in London and that is the only solution to solve this matter. However, this is not
good news for Lotus as the team is already financially weak and in order to make some progress in the F1 circuit, Lotus needs to focus and this matter is making it very difficult for the team to proceed with their work.
