Lotus not pleased with their performance in Friday practice of 2012 Canadian GP – Formula 1 news
Alan Permane, the trackside operations director of Lotus, has said that they are not pleased with their performance in free Friday practice sessions of 2012 Canadian Grand Prix held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal.
Lotus driver, Romain Grosjean faced issues with E20 and came 14th in the timesheets of FP2. Moreover, he covered 29 laps and was followed by his teammate, Kimi Raikkonen who completed 33 laps and could only set 15th best time. However, Permane believes that
they will come up strong in the qualifying.
“We ran the option tyres in first practice with some high fuel loads,” Permane said. “Neither driver was 100% happy with their car, so we spent some time working with setup changes. Romain felt his car was a little too biased to the front, but he was much
happier with the changes made. Kimi paid attention to improving his car over the kerbs as it was a little bit too harsh to start with; steadily improving through the day. I'm confident our finishing positions in FP2 will not reflect where we'll be in qualifying
tomorrow.”
Furthermore, Raikkonen said that the warmer temperatures will hopefully prove out to be beneficial for the British team in the qualifying of the Canadian GP.
At present, the Finnish driver is at 6th position in the drivers’ championship with 51 points. Besides, he is 6 points ahead of Jenson Button of McLaren and 8 points behind Nico Rosberg of Mercedes. Additionally, he has delivered some remarkable performances
in the season so far and secured podium finishes in fourth and fifth grands prix.
On the other hand, Grosjean has also performed quite convincingly in the season so far and is presently at 8th place in the drivers’ rankings with 35 points. Furthermore, he is 10 points behind Button and 6 points ahead of Pastor Maldonado of Williams.
Above and beyond, Lotus, standing at fourth place in the constructors’ championship with 86 points, are trying their best to make the necessary developments and the essential preparations to improve the pace of their car for the forthcoming races in order
to fight for the championship title this year.
