Lotus not ready for double-DRS until Japanese Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Lotus technical director, James Allison has said that they are not ready to use their double-DRS device again until the 2012 Japanese Grand Prix.
The Enstone based team planned to test their DDRS during the free Friday practice of the Belgian GP so as to launch it on the race day in order to get a competitive edge over the other contenders. However, they faced difficulties to gather the essential
information about their update package due to the weather conditions. Therefore, they didn’t come up with the new device in the race.
Allison has said that now they will show up the DDRS design in the Japanese GP as they think that the tracks of the Italian and Singapore grands prix will not suit it.
“Although we would like to have it at Monza - because it is the type of circuit that rewards such a thing - we don't have the DRS device configured to cope with Monza level of downforce,” Allison explained. “So it is not even on the table. In Singapore you
won't see it either, because it's too high a downforce circuit with insufficient straights for it to be worthwhile. The earliest you might see it now is Suzuka.”
In addition, the team principal of Lotus, Eric Boullier said that although they struggled during the last race as they couldn’t attain the desired results. Nevertheless, he said that they are earnestly looking forward to achieve better scores in the season
ahead.
Furthermore, he said that their aim is to keep on making the necessary advancements so as to show up with a car which is competent enough of achieving victories in the remaining season.
“This is not the case this year, as we'll develop E20 until very last race. And that won't compromise the design of E21,” he said.
Besides, he appreciated the performance of their driver, Kimi Raikkonen who has raced extremely well in the season until now and has secured six podium finishes.
Over and above, he said that they are trying their best to win the championship title for which they are making the best of the efforts.
