Lotus plan to improve qualifying pace in 2012 F1 season ahead – Formula 1 news
Lotus team principal, Eric Boullier has said that they have found the solution which will help in improving their qualifying pace so as to derive good results in forthcoming 2012 Formula 1 season.
Romain Grosjean of Lotus secured an incredible second podium finish in 2012 Canadian Grand Prix held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal on June 10, after setting off from 7th grid position.
Additionally, he delivered an amazing performance during the ending laps in which he outdid Fernando Alonso of Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing.
On the other hand, his teammate, Kimi Raikkonen could only secure 8th place finish after starting from 12th grid position in the last race. However, he said that he could have achieved better result if he had started from a higher grid slot.
Nevertheless, Boullier said that they are trying their best to make the necessary preparations and the essential developments to improve the pace of their car for the approaching races. He also said that they have already got some ideas which will hopefully
enhance their qualifying pace in the upcoming season.
“I am not sure if the car is very sensitive,” team principal Eric Boullier said when asked if the 2012 Lotus was best only at hot temperatures. “We know these tyres have a range that is very small, and obviously when you have a car that is conservative with
the tyres you need some help to heat the tyres and make them work. But we definitely have some ideas about what to do now. There is a way to do it. I am not saying we will be fighting for pole position, but we will definitely be qualifying better.”
The British team is presently at third place in the constructors’ championship with 108 points. Furthermore, they are 11 points ahead of Ferrari and 25 points behind McLaren.
It will be important to note that they have emerged as one of the most competitive contenders in the season so far and they have a perfect blend of talented and experienced pair of drivers plus expertise to fight for this year’s championship title.
