Lotus prepare to launch double DRS in Belgian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Lotus technical director, James Allison has said that they are preparing to launch their new double DRS in the Belgian Grand Prix.
Allison said that even though the novel concept of double DRS will be banned by FIA in the next season, however, he insisted that the investment is still worth it.
“[Even] If it goes away next year it’s still something we think is worthwhile putting our effort into,” he said.
In addition, he said that they are all set to test their new system at Spa and said that it is quite hard for them to come up with such an innovative setup in the race ahead. Nevertheless, he said that they will get a good chance in the free practice to
test the essential upgrades in order to evaluate them for the forthcoming race.
Moreover, he said that they have a long season ahead but have got very less time to make the essential developments.
“We hope to have it ready to deploy at Spa,” Allison added, insisting it will require a lot of effort to have both cars ready to race the system in Belgium. “It’s a reasonable amount of time on the calendar but in working terms not very long at all because
of the shutdown,” he said.
It will be important to mention that the F1 pundit, Ted Kravitz has said that the DRS design of the Enstone based team is not like Mercedes F-duct device.
“You can only use DRS at one point on the circuit, where they’ll have this straight-line speed boost at pretty much any point over 150mph,” said Kravitz.
Besides, he said that the update will provide the British team a reasonable competitive advantage over other contenders in the approaching race.
Presently, Lotus are standing at third position in the drivers’ championship with 192 points. Additionally, they are ahead of Ferrari and are just a point behind McLaren.
Above and beyond, they are surely one of the most favourite contenders in this year’s championship fight and it will be thrilling to see how they show up in the upcoming race at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium.
