Lotus ready to confirm Romain Grosjean for 2013 – Formula 1 news
Team Principal for Lotus, Eric Boullier, has assured that Romain Grosjean will be staying with the team in 2013.
The driver has been suffering some bad criticism since the start of the current season. He has been involved in six unwanted incidents as he became the cause of ending the race for six drivers in first laps. The particular incidents also include the huge
crash in Belgium in which he not only took out himself but Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso and Sergio Perez. He was also called a ‘nut case’ by Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing team when he became the victim of a similar incident in the Japanese Grand Prix.
Grosjean had admitted to be under a lot of pressure ahead of the Korean Grand prix. He said that he had been focusing really hard on making a clean start in that race. His hard work paid off well and he was finally able to complete the race without causing
any first lap troubles. He was also able to finish at seventh place on the grid.
Earlier in July, the driver had confessed to his own personal hopes that he might be staying at the Lotus team for the next year. He has been performing really well this season despite the incidents as compared to his debut in 2009.
“It was good to see Romain drive very sensibly despite all the pressure that is on his shoulders,” said Boullier.
He told the BBC, “He (Grosjean) has been reassured about his future and that he is going to stay with us, but I cannot commit today. Everything is ready; the contract is ready and has been approved by the board. It is just a question of finding the possibility
to do it.”
Before the driver’s improvement last weekend, the team owner Gerard Lopez along with Boullier had stated that they could not guarantee Grosjean’s stay in light of the lap incidents. Now with their current statement, Lotus has dismissed the uncertainty surrounding
the whole issue. He said that Grosjean deserves to be in Formula 1 and that he will be the future of the sport.
