Lotus say they will look to keep on developing the car until later in the season – Formula 1 news
Lotus have said that they are ready to push on with the developments in the current year until late into the season to remain competitive to the end.
The E20 has bore fruits for the team that it did not expect at the start of the season. The team has done well to score 8 podium finishes in the season so far.
Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean have used the E20 very well in suited conditions and it has brought them vital points.
Raikkonen is very much in contention for the drivers title and the team overall is also in contention for the constructors’ title.
The team is not gearing up to aggressively for the title shots and they have revealed that they are not going to back up and will develop the car longer than they have previously.
The duo of Raikkonen and Grosjean were able to score 33 points at the Hungarian Grand Prix with double podium finish of 2nd and 3rd. Yet the team has not been able to record a win but it seems that they have been able to inch closer with each race to that
win.
Technical director James Allison told Sky Sports News that his outfit has realised that they have elected to invest in the next year’s car too early and that has not been a good decision for the team’s performance. This year however they are planning to
correct that mistake.
“One of the things that our team has got a little bit wrong in the last couple of seasons is that we have been too ready to switch over to the new car a little bit too soon,” he said. “So we started this year consciously intending to develop this one a bit
longer than normal.”
When asked about the chances of Raikkonen being champion, Allison said, “Why not? There are an awful lot of points for coming first and there are a lot of races to be done. The lead is minuscule compared to the points available.”
It will be interesting to see how Lotus fares as the season progresses.
