Lotus show desire to keep Romain Grosjean in their 2013 driver line-up – Formula 1 news
Lotus team principal, Eric Boullier has expressed desire to keep their driver, Romain Grosjean in their squad for 2013 Formula 1 season despite the problems faced by the Frenchman in 2012.
Grosjean has caused many accidents in this season due to which he faced many penalties and criticism over his aggressive driving style.
Even though, his race seat has not been confirmed in the Enstone based team for the next season, but Boullier has recently said that they are evaluating the potential options for their next year’s driver line-up and are considering the French driver too
who has secured three podium finishes in this year.
“At the moment we are having a few days or a few weeks of consideration,” team boss Eric Boullier is quoted by RMC Sport. “This season, there were not terrible things and not great things. But we’re not going to bury the kid, he did three podiums.”
On the other hand, team owner Genii’s Gerard Lopez has asserted that Grosjean’s chances to remain in the team for the coming year are quite strong.
In addition, he said that the 26-year-old has performed convincingly well in this season and they are hoping to see further improvements in his driving in the next year.
“The chance that he races with us in 2013 is great. It is time to stop and take two months off,” he said. “I hope I’ll be there next year. He understands the car, he can get the most from it, but he has not done everything we asked of him, especially in
terms of consistency.”
Besides, he said that Grosjean is one of the most talented drivers in the field and has developed a very good relationship with all the team members.
Though, he said that he wants the veteran driver to stay in the team for the coming year, but insisted that the final decision is more likely to be taken Grosjean.
It will be very interesting to see whether the French driver remains in the British team in the next season or not and how he performs in the future.
