Lotus target to race updated Coanda-exhaust in 2012 United States GP – Formula 1 news
Lotus technical director, James Allison has said that they are targeting to come up with their updated Coanda-exhaust layout in the 2012 United States Grand Prix which is going to be held at Circuit of The Americas next weekend and are hoping to attain competitive
result.
The Enstone based team introduced the Coanda-exhaust system in the Korean GP so as to increase their downforce and later used an upgraded version in the Abu Dhabi GP. Although, their driver, Kimi Raikkonen said that they can extract more from their novel
exhaust design, but he appreciated his team’s effort in this regard.
Furthermore, Allison has said that they are still trying to make the essential improvement in their exhaust layout with the aim to take more out of it in the approaching race.
In addition, he said that they are feeling confident about their update after testing it in the Young Driver Test and are aiming to perform well with it in the last two races of the current season.
Besides, he said that they are eying to launch an aerodynamic upgrade to the front wing of their car in order to improve its pace in the forthcoming races.
“We are still experimenting with the latest evolution of our Coanda system,” technical director James Allison said. “This delivers the same downforce as the one we introduced in Korea and used in the Abu Dhabi race, but does not sap as much power from engine.
We trialled this evolution in Abu Dhabi, but opted to go for known quantity of the Korea-spec. Now we have the Young Driver Test behind us, we are confident that this evolution will assist with around an extra six horsepower for last two races of the season.
We also have a little aero upgrade to front wing too.”
Additionally, he said that they are pushing harder to enhance their qualifying pace to help their drivers in securing higher grid slots for the upcoming races to attain promising results.
It will be thrilling to see how Raikkonen and his teammate, Romain Grosjean perform in the final two races of the season.
