Lotus team boss Eric Boullier warns against complacency – Formula 1 news
Lotus boss Eric Boullier has warned against being over confident because of the team’s recent success.
Lotus has scored back-to-back podium finishes at Bahrain and the recently concluded Spanish GP. Both drivers made the podium at Bahrain while Kimi Raikkonen secured the podium at the Spanish GP with Romain Grosjean placed at fourth.
Raikkonen felt after both the races that he had missed an opportunity to secure a win. Lotus have always looked good even during the pre-season testing it was being speculated that Lotus will be a force to reckon with in the season. After the Mugello test
with the new updates Lotus looks even better.
Boullier said that he was very pleased with the consistency of the team but wants them to keep on pushing for the ultimate goal. He said he may have to revise their earlier goal of finishing fourth in the Constructors’ Championship now that Lotus can look
to win it.
“After a difficult first few races - where our pace on track did not convert to results at the chequered flag - it's true to say we have had two strong results and if we continue to score like this we may have to revise our expectations,” he said. “That
said, nothing stands still in Formula One and we would be foolhardy to underestimate the opposition. We have had two good results, yes, but we have not scored a win. Things change very quickly so we won't be resting on our laurels.”
Technical director James Allison explained of the updates they are going to bring in for the E20 to be able to adapt to the conditions of the Monaco circuit. He mentioned that the car will have a bigger rear wing to increase the down-force. He also said
that there will be little bodywork changes as the area near the side pods and the rear drums will be different as well. The suspensions will require some modifications. Some changes are particularly for Raikkonen as the steering on his car has been made more
reactive for the Monaco circuit.
It will be interesting to see how long will it take for Raikkonen to claim a victory but it seems he is getting closer with each race.
