Lotus team confident of better result in the 2012 season – Formula 1 news
Lotus is confident it has the drivers to deliver with results and challenge the frontrunners of the 2012 season.
Lotus was billed as one of the top teams prior to the season starting as the pre-season performances were very good for the team.
The first two races though ended in a bit disappointing way for the team as one of their drivers Romain Grosjean had to retire. The team looked to pick up its pace during the Chinese Grand Prix and has started to look one of the stronger teams of the season
after their Bahrain GP showing.
Both Kimi Raikkonen and Grosjean finished at 2nd and 3rd respectively. Team principal Eric Boullier feels it may be the boost the team needed to improve its performances for the season.
Trackside operations director Alan Permane also reckoned that the result at the Bahrain GP is proof that Lotus is not ready for the season ahead.
“There is no doubt we have shown promise all year and we have been saying it will come, it will come, and it has,” he told AUTOSPORT. “We have had a decent straightforward race, and not screwed up the strategy. We've demonstrated the car is quick and I think
we can be quick just about anywhere. We know our weakness, which is low speed, traction and stuff like that, but we are very happy with the car in higher and medium speeds.”
Lotus have been boosted by a confident return to Formula 1 by Raikkonen, who has shown no signs of rustiness or lack of speed even after a two year hiatus from the sport.
His inclusion the team has give Grosjean the confidence and the room to drive freely and calmly while learning from a senior as well.
The combination of both has given Lotus a good chance to take a shot at the biggest prize of the sport the Constructors title. From the current drivers’ standings the Finn can be viewed as a potential drivers’ championship contender.
Lotus finds itself in a very positive position as it works to move ahead in the season. It will be imperative for them to keep up the performances and things are likely to fall in place.
