Lotus team principal Eric Boullier delighted with team’s performance in Montreal – Formula 1 news
Lotus team principal, Eric Boullier is very much delighted with his team’s performance in 2012 Canadian Grand Prix held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal on June 10.
Boullier said that their car E20 was perfect for the race and both the drivers, Romain Grosjean and Kimi Raikkonen, performed extremely well. However, he said that they need to improve their qualifying pace in the forthcoming races so as to achieve better
results.
“Today's result is due to very good team work and keeping focused on the task at hand. The E20 was very well setup for the race, our strategies worked for both cars to finish much higher than they started and both drivers drove superbly. Romain drove an
excellent race and P2 is superb for whole team, especially everyone at Enstone who keeps pushing to develop every area of the car. We know that if we can get more in qualifying we will be able to achieve even better things in the races, so that is our task
ahead,” he said.
Grosjean secured an impressive second podium finish after starting the race from 7th place in the grid. Moreover, he showed incredible pace during the ending laps in which he overtook Fernando Alonso of Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing.
The French driver is currently standing at 7th place in the drivers’ championship with 53 points. Furthermore, he is 8 points ahead of Jenson Button of McLaren and just 2 points behind his teammate, Raikkonen.
On the other hand, Raikkonen could only secure 8th place finish after setting off from 12th grid position in the last race. Additionally, at present, the Finnish driver is at 6th position in the drivers’ rankings with 55 points and is 12 points behind Nico
Rosberg of Mercedes.
Meanwhile, Lotus are presently at third place in the constructors’ championship with 108 points. In addition, they are 11 points ahead of Ferrari and 25 points behind McLaren.
Above and beyond, they have emerged as one of the most competitive contenders in the season so far and are trying their best to make the significant advancements and the essential preparations to fight for the championship title.
