Lotus team principal Eric Boullier shows concerns about temperature – Formula 1 news
Lotus team principal, Eric Boullier has shown concerns about the temperature and says that their car E20 doesn’t perform well in cool conditions due to which they struggled with the tyre management in 2012 Monaco Grand Prix.
“It was worrying seeing in the race our pace getting worse, so it is very related to the weather conditions,” Boullier told Autosport. “When you know the tyres will degrade, what you want to do is design a car that will not degrade the tyres. But what we
were not expecting is that because of this, which is a strength in one hand, it also became a weakness when the temperatures come down.”
After the successful pre-season testing programme, the British team has emerged as one of the most competitive contenders in this year’s championship. Additionally, they have a perfect blend of expert staff plus talented and experienced pair of drivers,
Romain Grosjean and Kimi Raikkonen.
The Finnish driver has made an impressive comeback in F1 this year and is currently standing at 6th place in the drivers’ championship with 51 points. Moreover, he is 6 points ahead of Jenson Button of McLaren and 8 points behind Nico Rosberg of Mercedes.
On the other hand, Grosjean is at 8th position in the drivers’ rankings 35 points. Furthermore, he is 6 points ahead of Pastor Maldonado of Williams and 10 points behind Button.
Meanwhile, Lotus are at fourth place in the constructors’ championship 86 points. In addition, they are 22 points behind McLaren and 25 points ahead of Mercedes.
Besides, they are trying their best to make the necessary preparations and the significant developments in order to improve the pace of their car so as to make their position stronger in this year’s championship battle.
It will be interesting to mention that during the start of the season, Eric said that they should not be deemed as the second class team anymore as they have all what it takes to be the world champion.
Over and above, they are positively looking forward to strike back in 2012 Canadian Grand Prix which is to be held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal on June 10.
