Lotus test driver Jerome d’Ambrosio admires E20 – Formula 1 news
Lotus test driver Jerome d'Ambrosio has admired E20 after running it on the first day of the in-season test held at Mugello circuit.
D’Ambrosio covered 40 laps on Tuesday testing at Mugello and set the fourth best time of 1 minute and 24.048 seconds. The Belgian driver praised E20 and called it the best car he has ever driven in his career so far.
“Although I only completed 40 laps, 20 in the wet and 20 in the dry, I instantly had a great feeling out on track,” he said. “The E20 really is a fantastic car; totally different to anything I've driven before. In the dry especially it was immediately obvious
just how good the car is in terms of stability and predictability; it's just a very easy car to drive. The team has been doing this for years with a great history of success, and you can feel that not just in the car, but in the way the whole team operates.”
It will be important to mention that he was scheduled to run 100 laps during the day. However, he expressed his disappointment as he could not even complete the half of his planned laps because of the rainstorm.
He added that he was expecting to get back on track even during the lunchtime but could not be able to do so due to heavy rain.
Besides, he said that they wanted to test some new updates in the car in order to evaluate its performance so to make the essential developments to improve its pace in the upcoming races which unfortunately they couldn’t manage to achieve.
Nevertheless, he admitted that if he would have test run the car in the adverse weather conditions, it would have been prove out to be less beneficial for the team. Therefore, he said that they took the right decision to stay in the garage and were able
to avoid the inconvenience that might have been caused.
At present, Lotus are at third place in the constructors’ standings in the season until now with 57 points and are ahead of Scuderia-Ferrari. Moreover, they are aiming to fight for a competitive finish in this year’s championship.
