Lotus trying to build understanding with their pair of drivers – Formula 1 news
Lotus team principal, Eric Boullier has said that they are trying their best to build understanding with their pair of drivers, Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean in order to fight for 2012 Formula 1 championship title.
Boullier said that as compared to their rivals, they need to work really hard to create understanding with their drivers who are new in the team and have different styles of driving.
“It is all part of understanding between team and driver,” Boullier said. “We had two new drivers in team and each driver has his own driving style and characteristics. It is just part of learning process and teams like McLaren, Red Bull Racing and Ferrari,
they have driver line-ups that they are used to working with. This year we had two new drivers which included one nearly complete rookie. And with Kimi, we just had to take time to adjust. It has just been part of process to understand his driving style and
to know how best to work together.”
The Enstone based team is presently at third place in the constructors’ championship with 108 points. Furthermore, they are 11 points ahead of Ferrari and 25 points behind McLaren.
Meanwhile, Raikkonen is standing at 6th position in the drivers’ rankings with 55 points. Additionally, he is just 2 points ahead of his teammate, Grosjean and 12 points behind Nico Rosberg of Mercedes.
It will be important to mention that the Finnish driver struggled with the DRS issue in the Canadian Grand Prix held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve and could only secure 8th place finish after setting off from 12th grid position.
Although, he felt upset with his poor performance in Montreal as he believed that he could have achieved better result. Nevertheless, he said that they have still been able to score some reasonable points and are aiming to hit back in the forthcoming races.
On the other hand, Grosjean secured an inspiring second podium finish in the last race after setting off from 7th place in the grid. In addition, the French driver is currently at seventh place in the drivers’ championship with 53 points and is
8 points ahead of Jenson Button of McLaren.
Over and above, both the drivers are looking forward to perform well in the race ahead in order to make their positions stronger in this year’s championship.
