Lotus want better results in 2013 – Formula 1 news
Lotus team principal, Eric Boullier has said that they want to attain better results in the 2013 Formula 1 season as compared to 2012 after unveiling E21.
The Enstone based team performed impressively well during the last season and managed to secure fourth place in the constructors’ championship with 303 points. Furthermore, they stood ahead of Mercedes and behind their main rival, McLaren.
Kimi Raikkonen, who came back to the sport with Lotus in the preceding season, delivered remarkable performances throughout year. He secured third position in the drivers’ championship with 207 points. Besides, he stayed ahead of his main opponent, Lewis
Hamilton and behind Fernando Alonso.
On the other hand, Romain Grosjean could not perform with consistency and caused many accidents during the year due to which he faced a lot of criticism too. Nonetheless, he performed incredibly well in quite a few races and managed to secure 8th
place finish in the drivers’ standing with 96 points. Moreover, he stayed ahead of Nico Rosberg and behind Felipe Massa.
Even though, the British squad secured amazing results in the last season. However, Boullier has said that they are looking forward to perform even better in this year. In addition, he said that they have got the potential to achieve more in this season
as they have a more competent car and superb drivers.
“I think it is fair to say that great things are possible,” Boullier said. “The leap we made from 2011 to 2012 showed what we are capable of. Add to this the continuity and potential of our driver line-up and we have a very powerful cocktail for the season
ahead. Our ambitious plan to turn ourselves into one of the top teams in Formula 1 is coming to fruition and now we need to harness this with strong and regular podium results.”
“We want to do better than we did last year,” he added.
It will be important to note that Lotus struggled with their qualifying pace in the previous year due to which they could not attain good results in quite a few races. Let’s see whether they will be able to overcome this deficiency in this season or not.
