Lotus will continue to work on double DRS despite FIA banning it for 2013 – Formula 1 news
Lotus are going to continue to work on double DRS despite FIA banning them for the 2013 season.
The team believes that it is still worth developing it double DRS design for the remainder of the season, regardless of the system being banned for next year.
Lotus have been doing quite well in the current season and are well in contention for both of the season’s titles. It is because of this reason that the team will be working on the double DRS system.
Lotus are placed 4th in the Constructors’ Championship only one point behind McLaren. The season has been very competitive and the team is looking to keep its bid alive by making sure that it does everything possible to get the best results they can out
of the season.
Lotus have done considerably well in contrast to their 2011 campaign. The drivers of the team have put in consistent performances, and balance each other perfectly with experience and young talent.
“There are changes to the rules to outlaw the double DRS things, yes,” he explained. “But there is benefit to he had. We are only halfway through a 20-race season, just over halfway through. It's not like we are near the end, so there is plenty of merit
to having something like this.”
Team principal Eric Boullier also said that he was very happy with the progress of the team so far. He is looking for further improvements after the summer break. Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean have added seven podiums in the season so far which is a
huge boost for the team.
“I think the pace is reasonably positive,” he explained. “We took it step-by-step because we don't see a drastic gain. If there is a gain to find, we need to bring it to the car. I think there is still some work to be done on it but, in one of the next races,
it will be on both cars.”
It will be interesting to see how the team fares in the season ahead once the team come back after the summer break.
