Lotus will strike back in 2012 Canadian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Lotus team is expected to strike back in 2012 Canadian Grand Prix, which is to be held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal on June 10, after facing difficulties in the last race.
The British team had a successful pre-season testing programme this year and has emerged as one of the most competitive contenders with their experienced and talented pair of drivers, Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean.
However, they struggled during the Monaco GP as Raikkonen could only be able to score 2 points with his 9th place finish after setting off from 8th grid position while Grosjean was retired and could not pocket even a single point. Nevertheless, the team
principal, Eric Boullier said that their drivers are capable enough of winning the next race.
Although he said that it is very hard to make any kind of predictions for the upcoming races as there have been six different winners in the first six races. However, he said that they have got the potential to claim victory in the approaching race.
“Let’s hope so. Both Kimi and Romain are capable of winning and the E20 has shown race winning pace.” said Boullier. “Winning a grand prix is not the easiest thing in the world to achieve however, and I don’t imagine that we’ll have a different winner for
every race this year; a pattern should begin to emerge before too long. We’re looking forward to Montreal. It’s the first low downforce track of the season, where the E20 should be strong. Our 500th race may not have been one of our best, but I hope the 501st
is!”
At present, Lotus are standing at 4th place in the constructors’ championship with 86 points. Furthermore, they are 25 points ahead of Mercedes and 22 points behind McLaren.
Meanwhile, the Finnish driver is currently at 6th position in the drivers’ champion with 51 points. Additionally, he is 6 points ahead of Jenson Button of McLaren and 8 points behind Nico Rosberg of Mercedes.
On the other hand, his teammate, Grosjean has also shown some reasonable performances in the season until now and is presently at 8th position in the drivers’ rankings with 35 points. In addition, he is 6 points ahead of Pastor Maldonado of Williams and
10 points behind Button.
It will be important to mention that during the start of the season, Boullier said that they should not be seen as the second class team anymore as they have the perfect blend of expertise, talent and experience to stand along with the top teams.
Above and beyond, they are trying their best to make the substantial advancements and essential preparations so as to improve the pace of their car for the forthcoming race.
