Lou Abrahams’ The Next Challenge retains overall lead at 2012 Sydney 38 Australian Championships
After a tremendous performance on Sydney waters, Lou Abrahams’ The Next Challenge was able to hold on to the overall lead at 2012 Sydney 38 Australian Championships on the conclusion of Day 2.
The regatta being hosted by The Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club featured four races on the second day under favourable wind conditions which helped the leader of the board to maintain his form.
Abrahams displayed real consistent sailing on waters representing the Victorian Sandringham Yacht Club. On his boat, The Next Challenge, he sailed impressively during the first two days of the regatta earning a 2-2-1-3 scorecard on the second day to lead
overall in the championship.
The winds at the start of Day 2 were a bit light with a 10-knot speed but Race Officer Ted Anderson decided to take advantage of this bumpy seaway circling around the Palm Beach and commenced the first race of the day. The winds built a bit in the later
part of the day and the second race saw the breeze gusting around 15 knots.
The Next Challenge showed an impressive performance during all four races of the day and managed to cling to the top podium place. Alan and Tom Quick of Cruising Yacht Club of Australia finished on second podium with 21 points while Bruce Ferguson on his
Whisper hit the third spot with 25 points.
