Lou DiBella: Chavez Junior must take on Sergio Martinez to prove he is number one – Boxing news
Lou DiBella, promoter Sergio Gabriel Martinez, is definitely fed up of the fact that Julio Cesar Chavez Junior tries to evade Sergio.
Lou believes if he (Chavez) claims that he is the best middleweight he must stand against Martinez in the squared ring in order to prove who is worthy of being the number one middleweight.
Chavez Junior successfully defended his WBC middleweight title against Marco Antonio Rubio on Saturday February 4, 2012. The unanimous win was an emphatic one but became controversial when Marco camp threw an allegation over Chavez that he has avoided a
basic regulation which is mandatory to be followed after every bout.
As far as the controversy between Sergio and Chavez is concerned, the latter has always tried his level best to avoid the Mexican Maravilla. DiBella and his client have strenuously pursued Chavez to reach a possible agreement for a bout. The reason why Sergio
is so intensely in pursuit of the 25-year-old Chavez is the fact that he is the only brawler left in the middleweight division who Sergio hasn’t taken on in a bout.
Lou while expressing his irritation clearly said that in order to prove the world that his client Sergio is the number one middleweight brawler he will immediately contact Chavez camp in order to sign a bout-deal with them. DiBella said that he will move
forward as soon as Sergio takes care of Matthew Macklin on March 17.
It must be kept in mind that Sergio has been the former owner of WBC middleweight gold and has also retained it several times. In boxing world especially in the middleweight division the only name that resonates in the minds and thoughts of people when they
think of number one is Sergio’s name.
Lou said in his short conversation that they want to see just one man be the number one middleweight and it isn’t possible without a fair square bout.
Lou DiBella said, “As long as Sergio takes care business on March 17, Chavez must fight him next. Either fight him or he has to vacate his title. It’s plain and simple. We are tired of waiting for Chavez to step up to the plate. He needs to stop hiding behind
his people and be a real champion. He says that he wants the fight, so then prove it. If Sergio wins though, I expect negotiations to begin immediately for Sergio against Julio. Immediately!”
Any progress in the current scenario is only possible after Sergio’s March 17 engagement and this time it’s for sure that Chavez will accept the proposal.
