Lou DiBella: Jermain Taylor should now take on the invincible Caleb Truax to get in shape - Boxing News
Lou DiBella, owner DiBella entertainment, recently announced that his client Jermain Taylor, former WBC and WBO middleweight champion, will now take on a bit better opponent in the form of Caleb Truax, the current USA Minnesota State middleweight champion,
on April 20, 2012 to complete his comeback.
Jermain Taylor, 33, faced a serious concussion in a brawl against Arthur Abraham so much so that he was hospitalised and was diagnosed short term memory loss problem. Taylor after recuperating from the devastating injury announced that he wants to give his
body and mind some rest since he has been fighting for almost 20 years.
This whole incident took place in 2009 and since then the former middleweight champion remained outside the ring for two years. Recently on December 30, 2012, Taylor made an impressive return. Jermain, infamous as ‘Bad Intentions’, stood against Jessie Nicklow
in a 10-round bout.
Taylor won that non-title bout convincingly by collecting a knockout in just the eighth round and started his career anew in the middleweight division. Taylor before leaving the sport did not spent a good time in the ring since he collected four brutal losses
out of a total five skirmishes.
Lou, while backing up his client’s successful return said, “I thought Jermain had a very good performance against Nicklow after 26 months out of the ring, but what I want to see is a better performance against a slightly better opponent.”
DiBella said that Taylor certainly performed well against Jessie adding that it is a difficult task to get back on track especially after a long duration of almost 26 months.
Lou added that Jermain should now move upwards and take on tough opponents like Calex who have generated undefeated streaks to intimidate other pugilists. It must be noted that Calex, 28, infamous as ‘Golden’, has never lost even a single bout out of a total
19.
Lou remarked, “Anyone who is undefeated is a different type of challenge. When you’ve been out of the ring for 26 months, this is exactly what Jermain needs. He fought at the end of December and is coming back just a few months later. He can’t just fight
twice a year at this stage. He needs the activity, the rounds and the comfort of the ring.”
Taylor has started sparring under the supervision of Pat Burns, the legendary trainer who helped him grasp the middleweight titles. The bout will be a part of Showtime’s Friday night show ‘ShoBox: The New Generation’ and the venue for the event will be Beau
Rivage Resort & Casino situated in Biloxi, Mississipi.
