Lou Dibella says Sergio Martinez would murder Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
Promoter Lou Dibella has responded to comments made by Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. regarding a potential fight with WBC middleweight king Sergio Martinez.
Chavez, who holds the WBC silver title that formally qualifies him Martinez’s mandatory challenger, said that he wanted “Maravilla” in the ring despite never facing anyone remotely as talented.
"I would love to fight with Martinez,” Chavez told boxingscene.com.  “He's a great champion, but I understand that I'm going to fight Miguel Cotto, and I must be ready to seize the opportunity in order to achieve great things.”
Dibella implied that Chavez ought to contend himself with Cotto because fighting Martinez could lead to near fatal consequences.
"Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., supposedly, is Sergio's mandatory? I would get arrested if I promoted that fight with Chavez.  That would be murder," DiBella said to boxingscene.com
Chavez is scheduled to defend his title against Pawel “The Raging Bull” Wolak in Anaheim, California on December 4.  He hopes a win will put him in contention for a much larger bout against Cotto, the current WBA junior middleweight champion.
Chavez was originally supposed to meet contender Alfonso Gomez in early December, but Gomez was forced to back out of the fight due to a torn ligament in his left elbow.
While Chavez (41-0, 30 KOs) has a formidable record and anticipates a bout with Cotto, his promoter Bob Arum recently suggested future plans may entail something different.
Arum stated that he would like to throw Chavez onto a June 2011 card that featured Cotto, Yuri Foreman and Antonio Margarito, but that he intends to pit Margarito against Cotto, and Chavez against Foreman.
Margarito handed Cotto his first defeat in 2008, and Cotto has indicated he would like the chance to avenge the loss.  The fight would be held in June and featured in New York to coordinate with the city’s Puerto Rican parade.
