Lou Marson shines as Cleveland Indians defeat Minnesota Twins 6-3 - Game 2 – MLB Recap
Cleveland Indians’ catcher, Lou Marson had an extraordinary day with the bat as he went 2-for-4 with an average of .248 and hit his first homer of the season in the Indians’ 6-3 win over the Minnesota Twins at Target Field, Minnesota on July 18.
In the first two innings, the batters seemed powerless as they got out without scoring runs. At the bottom of the first inning, Alexi Casilla was grounded out to second base and Michael Cuddyer flied out towards right-field. During the second inning, the
Indians’ batters were grounded out to various infield positions.
The Twins got their initial run at the bottom of the third inning when Casilla scored one run on the single-run shot of Joe Mauer towards centre-field to give his team a 1-0 lead. The pitchers were on top in the fourth inning due to their outstanding throws
in ideal line. The Indians’ starter, Fausto Carmona pitched six innings and permitted two runs on seven hits with an ERA of 5.63. He was able to strike-out only one batter from his 89 pitches.
During the fifth inning, the Indians went ahead 2-1 by adding two runs. Michael Brantley singled off centre-field and Marson posted the first run for the Indians. The second run was taken by Ezequiel Carrera when Asdrubal Cabrera drove a single-run shot
towards centre-field. Brantley moved to third base at the end of the fifth inning.
The game was tied 2-all during the sixth inning when Danny Valencia homered (381 feet) towards left-field and gave some hope to the Twins. But in the seventh inning, Marson broke the tie runs by hitting a solo homer (423 feet) to centre-field. Carrera added
a leading run when Travis Hafner singled off right centre-field and the Indians led off 4-2 after the seventh inning.
In the ninth inning, the Indians extended their lead by contributing two runs while the Twins were able to score just one run at the bottom of the ninth inning and the game ended 6-3. Brantley and Luis Valbuena both added two runs in the Indians’ lead. On
the other hand, Trevor Plouffe hit a one-run homer (379 feet) to left-field to reduce the Twins’ lead.
With the second consecutive win on a single day, the Indians were able to lead the four-game series 2-0 at Minnesota.
