Lou Williams, Evan Turner help Philadelphia 76ers blow away New York Knicks – NBA Recap
Lou Williams dropped a season-high 28 points; Evan Turner erupted with 24 points along with 15 rebounds and the duo combined for 25 of the 38 points in the game changing third quarter as the Philadelphia 76ers send the New York
Knicks crashing to their fifth defeat in a row, 106-94.
Andre Iguodala posted 19 points, 8 rebounds and 4 steals; Thaddeus Young scored 14 on 6-of-9 while Elton Brand finished the night with 13 points for the Sixers, who shot 50.6 percent of their field shots including 5-for-9 from
distance.
The Knicks were led by a yet another inaccurate outing by Carmelo Anthony. The small forward continued with his poor shooting form and went 5-of-13 for a team high 22 points and also hauled down 9 rebounds. Tyson Chandler returned
back to the side after a two game layoff due to a left hamstring injury and finished with 8 points and 12 boards. He however failed to infuse life in a defence which gave 118 points on average in the two games without him.
The biggest disappointment of the night for the Knicks was Amare’ Stoudemire. The power forward seemed out of place and managed only 9 points on 4-of-9. Jeremy Lin had a 14 point, 7 assists night but also had 6 miscues. Landry
Field had 13 and J.R. Smith took 13 shots for 12 points.
Mike D’ Antoni was disgusted by yet another listless performance by his team of supposed superstars;
"When you get your rear kicked liked we are, you just can't come out and say it's this, it's that. It's just collectively we didn't play well, collectively our spirit's not good and collectively our defense is not very good at
all. Collectively, we just didn't do what we're supposed to do. And we gotta solve that somehow."
Anthony scored 12 points in the first quarter, which the Knicks led by 24-22, but the Sixers started to warm up in the second and after going into the break with a 51-49 lead, they blew away with a 24-11 late third quarter run,
capped by a triple from Williams to take a 89-73 lead into the final quarter.
Williams, who scored 13 points in the third quarter, said after the game;
"I was just able to get some good looks," Williams said. "In the third quarter, played with a ton of confidence and felt like I could make any shots."
Early in the fourth, the Sixers reeled off a 9-4 run to make it a 19 point game and although the Knicks started to make shots, it was just too late to start something special.
