Louie Vito clinches men’s halfpipe victory at 5Star US Snowboarding Grand Prix – Snowboarding News
America’s Louie Vito claimed top honours in men’s Halfpipe Final at the 5Star Sprint US Snowboarding Grand Prix that went down at Mammoth Mountains in California, America, on Saturday, March 3.
It turned out to be an all-American sweep of the podium with Greg Bretz finishing in runner-up place while Luke Mitrani rounding out the third position.
With the Ticket to Ride (TTR) World Snowboard Tour closing in on the final event of the season, Burton US Open Snowboarding Championships which is scheduled to get underway at Stratton Mountain in Vermont from March 7 – 10, Sprint US Snowboarding Grand Prix
gave riders an opportunity to improve their position on the TTR World Rankings by earning coveted TTR rating points.
With some of the best riders from around the world competing at Mammoth Mountains for top honours, the snowboarding fans were treated to a heavy dose of thrilling action.
With ideal conditions prevailing at the primary event site, the 23-year-old Vito put on a spectacular show after getting pushed against the wall in the Final.
With the battle for top honours coming down to the wire, the Utah-based rider needed to deliver on his final run. Despite being under immense pressure, Vito stepped up to meet the challenge head on and landed a phenomenal run that featured a front-side double
cork 1080 to a Cab double cork among other tricks to post a 98.20 on the score-board. The score proved to be a decisive one, consequently sealing the fate of the Final in his favour.
“I am super stoked on winning the overall,” said Vito after podium presentation. “But riding with Greg and Luke today and watching them throw down some good runs really pushed me to ride better and for me that is what it is all about. The sun is out, the
pipe is good and I walked away with a win so I can't complain.”
The coveted victory also served to earn Vito the series crown.
With the 5Star Sprint US Snowboarding Grand Prix wrapping up, the riders will now head to the last stop of the TTR World Snowboard Tour in Vermont.
