After Montpellier’s 3-2 defeat at the hands of Evian TG, the president has issued an ultimatum to his players who he feels have stayed in their comfort zones for far too long
This season, reigning Ligue 1 champions Montpellier Herault are shadow of their former selves. Gone are the days when the Heraultais club walked on water in the Championnat, relying on commitment and strength to go through everything.
This season, La Paillade have not registered a single win at home which is certainly a cause of concern for all related to the club. Last season, the club’s fans saw their team conquer http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 and this eason, the side’s situation is uniquely different as
they struggle to perform at their best.
And, the team’s performance has infuriated the club president so much that he has issued a warning to all of the team.
“I do not have the balls. I know where we stood from the beginning of the season. I will give them another month and then we will take the necessary decisions. It cannot continue like this. When people have everything they want to work with, they cannot
fail like that. In general, players feel un-punishable. In the days that followed the title, I knew that some would take it in the head. It happened like this in Marseille, Bordeaux and Lille. There in Lyon, guys have remained the same.”
“It’s a shame because my players, they are good guys. But there are many who are very overrated and had a lot of success last season.”
At the weekend, Rene Girard’s men lost to an Evian side that had not won a single game away from home. Saber Khelifa scored all three goals for TG as the Montpellier defence crumbled.
The departure of Olivier Giroud to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 in the summer has really hit the club hard. Although new signing Emanuel Herrera is a worthy replacement, the Argentine should not be expected to score week in week out in his first season in Europe. And, apart
from a few good runs, the striker’s effect was not really noteworthy.
Furthermore, fellow summer signing, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Garry-Bocaly-c14429, who was so consistent last season, has not been able to bring his best to the
team so far.
Captain Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, who is widely considered as a future of French defence, has not realised his full potential and has become prone to mistakes. The price of success is indeed hard for the Montpellier players but as the current champions of France,
La Paillade should do better than they have done this season.
