Embarked on a desperate duel with Paris Saint-Germain to win the Championelle, Montpellier president Louis Nicollin has given a realistic approach on PSG’s future as Ligue 1 giants
Following two consecutive defeats at the hands of Nancy Lorraine and then against Gazelec Ajaccio (Coupe de France), everyone thought that Montpellier have now started showing signs of choking.
However, a capitulation never happened as Montpellier took the top spot in the Ligue 1 standings following a hard earned 1-0 win over AS Saint-Etienne. On the other hand, PSG were held to a 1-1 draw against Bordeaux. Though both sides are on equal number
of points, Montpellier’s superior goal difference gives them the edge over their Ile counterparts.
With just nine games left in the 2011/2012 Ligue 1 Championnat, the iconic president of La Paillade, Louis Nicollin, has started talking about the club’s title chances. The controversial yet likeable Nicollin does not hide the fact that he wants to see his
team win the Championelle.
“We never would have imagined this early in the season”, admits the Frenchman. “To be champions, seems impossible. If we become champions of France I will be crazy. I am under no illusions but it’s true that the Lord is with us.”
However, despite knowing that the club is in a great position to win the Ligue 1 crown for the first time, Nicollin still believes that Paris Saint-Germain are the most dominant side in France now and will continue to do so for many years to come.
The Ile giants have invested almost 110 million Euros on new players in the last two transfer markets and Nicollin believes that PSG will do exactly what Lyon did in the first decade of this century.
“All the Paris if Paris has the dough, it is the capital of France, the most beautiful city in the world. We will ‘eat’ Paris for seven years, just like we ate Lyon before them. That way, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 will be well-represented in the Champions League. I have nothing
against them.”
Though Nicollin knows that his side has given PSG a run for their money this season, the president is aware that repeating such a feat would be extremely hard when PSG settle down.
