Louis Oosthuizen, Padraig Harrington, Paul Casey, Matteo Manassero, Graeme McDowell, Lee Westwood to miss the cut
Louis Oosthuizen, Padraig Harrington, Paul Casey, Matteo Manassero, Graeme McDowell, Lee Westwood and the Molinari Brothers are projected to miss the cut into the third round of the Open Championship. The 140 year-old-major is taking place at the par-70
Royal St George’s Golf Club in Kent, England.
Some big names in the world of golf are hovering in the danger zone, as the cut has been laid down at par for the tournament.
The most shocking news was that of Westwood, who stepped into the tournament eyeing his first major. The Englishman served as world number one for 22 weeks and is now ready to pack his bags for home after giving a terrible performance in first two days of
the competition. Westwood composed a score of 71 in the opening round and is already three-over after the front nine of the second round.
Meanwhile, Harrington, who has twice won the Open Championship in the past, seems lost all of a sudden. He is missing fairways, driving the ball out-of-bounds, and is missing the simplest of putts. As a result of his poor showing, the player has bogeyed
eight holes so far and double-bogeyed one. Harrington has five more holes to play, but the way things are going, there are rare chances that he will remain in the field for the final round.
Manassero, who won the Malaysian Open in April, could not battle the icy winds of England. The Italian compiled a score of three-over-par, 73 in the opening round after bogeying four holes against a single birdie. Although the weather is much calmer today
than yesterday, there are not many expectations from the rookie after looking at his weak swings.
World number nine McDowell, who managed to save his face in the opening round with the help of his caddie, could not turn the tables in his favour with the onset of the second round. The Northern Irishman, who stepped into Friday with a score of 68, has
crossed the realms of par after carding five bogeys and one double-bogey in his first 14 holes.
