Louis Oosthuizen and Alvaro Quiros confirm to join the field of Maybank Malaysian Open – Golf News
South African Louis Oosthuizen and Alvaro Quiros of Spain will be seen in action at the Maybank Malaysian Open, to be played at the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club from April 12 to 15.
Martin Kaymer and Charl Schwartzel are the players who had previously confirmed their participation for the RM 7.5 million event.
Oosthuizen and Quiros are the major additions to the tournament and are expected to attract a huge crowd to the venue.
Oosthuizen, who defended the South Africa title successfully early in the season, is now a hot favourite for a win at the Kuala Lumpur GC because of his great current form.
Apart from his current form, his experience at the venue will also help him to remain in contention for the top spot on the leaderboard.
On the other hand, Quiros will be having his first ever start in the event and is yet to be introduced to the local fans.
However, his last season’s performance, which earned him two victories, including a stunning win in the season-ending Dubai World Championship, makes him a good competitor in the tournament.
According to Mohamed Adam Wee, the Chief Marketing Officer for Maybank, inclusion of such big names in the event speaks of the success and popularity of the tournament among players all over the world.
"The second wave of star players committing to the Maybank Malaysian Open is a clear indication of the standing of the event as an important fixture on The European Tour's year-long Race to Dubai," said Mohamed Adam.
"We are pleased to welcome back a Major-winning star in Oosthuizen and Spaniard Quiros, whose fiery style of play and booming drives are a marvel to watch," he added.
He went on to say that the tournament's organising committee is pleased with the success of the tournament.
The 156-player field consists of experienced players from all parts of the world as well as some young golfers who are on a journey to prove their mantles.
Moreover, with the increase in popularity, the tournament is expected to become one of the largest golf events of Asia in the near future.
