Louis Oosthuizen and Alvaro Quiros register for Maybank Malaysian Open
Two of the rampaging European Tour players Louis Oosthuizen and Alvaro Quiros have now confirmed their participation in the upcoming Maybank Malaysian Open and will be reinforcing the already stringent field at the star-studded event on the Asian Tour.
The event will feature some of the grizzled players of the tour including the likes of world number four Martin Kaymer and Masters champion Charl Schwartzel.
This will be the 51st edition of the Maybank Malaysian Open and will be played at the scenic Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club from April 12-15.
South African Oosthuizen, winner of the 2010 Open, has already started off the season with a victory at the Africa Open earlier in January and will be hoping to continue with his winning streak till the first major event of the year, the Masters in April.
Mohamed Adam Wee, Maybank Chief Marketing Officer, said: “The second wave of star players committing to the Maybank Malaysian Open is a clear indication of the standing of the event as an important fixture on The European Tour Race to Dubai. We are pleased
to welcome back a Major-winning star in Louis Oosthuizen and the effervescent Spaniard Alvaro Quiros”.
Unlike many of the top-ranking players on the field, Quiros will be making his debut at the event in hopes of landing the tile. A six-time European Tour winner, Quiros is eager to land titles on the Asian turf like many other golfers on the European Tour.
Admiral (R) Tan Sri Dato' Setia Mohd Anwar Mohd Nor, President of the Malaysian Golf Association also lauded the participation of the high profile players in the event and vowed to extend a warm welcome to the foreigners.
He said, “It is a golden opportunity to witness the likes of Martin Kaymer, Charl Schwartzel, Louis Oosthuizen and Alvaro Quiros battle it out for the top honours”.
The event has a total purse of US$2.5million and is considered as one of the major events on the Asian tour. The event is co-sanctioned by the European Tour and holds considerable ranking points to offer.
Kaymer and Schwartzel are also hoping to make an early breakthrough before heading into the heat of the season with approaching major titles in summers.
