Louis Oosthuizen and Charl Schwartzel to feature in Barclays Scottish Open – European Tour News
Two major winners Louis Oosthuizen and South African Charl Schwartzel will highlight the Barclays Scottish Open this year. The four-day event will be played before The Open Championship. This event will be played from July 7-10.
The Castle Stuart Golf Links in Inverness will be hosting this championship. Oosthuizen, The Open champion will participate in this event one week before he defends his title.
Both these players are from South Africa. They have been playing golf together since they used to play in the junior circuit. Oosthuizen won his first major last year and Schwartzel won the Masters this year. Both these players joined the elite club of major winners.
Once again, this tournament will be having a star studded field. Both these South Africans will join US Open Champion Graeme McDowell, three-time major winner Padraig Harrington, three-time Masters champion Phil Mickelson and the defending champion Edoardo Molinari. Some more top ranked players are also expected to participate in this tournament.
Barclays Scottish Open will be a great platform for Oosthuizen who will look to prepare for The Open Championship. The 28-year-old will be hoping to win this event and regain his form for capturing the Claret Jug once again at The Open Championship this year.
Oosthuizen said about competing in Scottish Open, “The fact that the Barclays Scottish Open is being played over a links course this year is really good news for me. Playing on a links course will help me better prepare to defend The Open as I will be able to work on a lot of the shots I’ll require to do well at Royal St George’s.”
The 28-year-old champion has already shown his form this year as he won the African Open which was sanctioned by the European Tour. He won in a play-off against Manuel Quiros and Chris Wood.
Schwartzel on the other hand played beautiful golf during the Masters. He will be arrive at the location of Scottish Open and will be confident ahead of The Open. Certainly, there are going to be high hopes from the 26-year-old Schwartzel.
The Masters champion has won two tournaments this year. First he successfully defended his title at Joburg Open then a break-through career victory came for him at the Masters. He joined the list of players from South Africa to have won a major victory in the career. Schwartzel was also the third player after the legends Gary Player and Trevor Immelman, who own a green jacket.
Although, the last couple of days have been like a rollercoaster for Schwartzel, he still is confident of winning another major title in his career.
Both these two South African players will highlight the field and will look to gain form before competing at The Open this year.
