Louis Oosthuizen and Charl Schwartzel to lead South African charge at Maybank Malaysian Open
South African duo Louis Oosthuizen and Charl Schwartzel are now heading to the Malaysian turf for their latest venture in the Maybank Malaysian Open.
Both contenders are playing top-notch golf as Schwartzel, being last year’s Masters Champion, while Oosthuizen this year’s runner-up in the coveted event.
Oosthuizen came close of retaining the title in his home country and lost the title at the second playoff hole to the rampaging Bubba Watson.
Oosthuizen, who is in blistering form after pulling in a historic double-eagle at Masters, is relishing the stardom although he lost the title to American.
The 2010 Open champion was in search of his second major title in his grizzled career and has played brilliantly throughout the current season.
He is hoping to continue with his stunning form and bag another major title in the current season. Oosthuizen had a difficult time to get around the historic double eagle and said:
"It was tough after that double eagle. When something like that happens early in your round you think that this is it - that was my first double eagle ever - so it was tough the next five holes to just get my head around it and just play the course".
"I don't feel like I could have hit two better putts in the play-off, but congrats to Bubba. He did brilliantly".
Oosthuizen with his strong finish at Augusta National is now back in the top-20 on the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) while the defending champions Schwartzel fell for a disappointing 50th, and has now dropped to 12th on the OWGR.
The field at Maybank Malaysian Open will be yet another gathering of the giants of the sport including the likes of German Martin Kaymer, Simon Dyson and Alvaro Quiros.
Kaymer managed to make the halfway cut the sprawling Augusta National for the first time in his five appearances.
Dyson and Quiros both failed to make the cut and have lost all their chances of making it into the Ryder Cup team for the moment.
European Tour schedule will now resume after the first major event of the season and will feature some high profile events, including the BMW PGA Championship before heading into the second major of the year, the US Open in San Francisco.
