Louis Oosthuizen commits to play in The Thailand Golf Championship
South Africa’s Louis Oosthuizen has set his sights on winning The Thailand Golf Championship, when he tees of next month at the prestigious Amata Spring Country Club in Bangkok.
The 2010 Open Champion is currently enjoying a great form and is confident to end the season on a high note by clinching his second Asian Tour victory of the year.
Earlier this season, he won the Maybank Malaysian Open and came close to his second victory at the Barclays Singapore Open last week.
However, he was unlucky to finish second on the leaderboard, after Matteo Manassero defeated him on the third extra hole in the sudden-death playoffs.
He is now relishing the opportunity to participate in another event in Asia, which is the second last tournament on the Asian Tour roster.
“Since turning pro, I’ve been coming to Asia regularly to play a few events, it’s part of my schedule,” he said. “After the PGA Tour, I’ll do some events in Asia and then some in South Africa”.
He added, “You know what to expect weather wise, that’s the main thing. The golf courses are always good and we are treated really well. Obviously I enjoyed my win in Malaysia and it will be nice going back to Asia”.
In April, the South African also came close to winning the second major golf championship title of his career, when he participated in the Masters Tournament.
He tied for the top spot with Bubba Watson after four rounds in regulation. As a result, the game entered into the sudden-death playoffs, where Watson clinched the victory by saving an amazing par on the second extra hole.
Oosthuizen is now looking forward to renewing his battle with the American, as Watson has already confirmed to participate in the US$1 million event.
Talking about the course, he stated that he never played at the Amata Spring Country Club in the past. Therefore, it will be a new experience for Oosthuizen to play on one of the most beautiful courses in Asia.
“I have seen it on TV and thought it would be good for me to go. I think it’ll be good course to play,” he said.
