Louis Oosthuizen commits to play the Barclays Singapore Open
The world number 12, Louis Oosthuizen of South Africa is set to return to the field of the Barclays Singapore Open, where he missed out the chance of entering the playoffs last year.
In 2011, he certainly had the chance to join the playoff duo, Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano and Filipino Juvic Pagunsan, after he received a chance of an eagle on the final hole.
His shot, using three-wood, stopped just 10 feet away from the hole, giving him a chance of draining an eagle putt.
However, the ball slid past the cup and he had to settle for a birdie in the end. At the end of the weather-shortened tournament, he was tied for the third position with Anthony Kim.
Talking to the European Tour’s official website, he expressed his wish of finishing the event a couple of positions better this year.
The 2010 Open champion is currently enjoying a great season so far, as he recorded victories at the Africa Open and the Maybank Malaysian Open.
In addition to that, he finished second at the Masters Tournament, after Bubba Watson outshined him in the playoffs.
He now ranks sixth in the Race to Dubai, led by the world number one Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland.
"I've had a good season. I'm very happy with the season, but it can always improve,” said Oosthuizen. "I'm still fighting. I want to get up in the world ranking - get to maybe sixth or seventh - and I've still got the Race to Dubai (in my sights)”.
He added, "I know I'm quite a bit behind Rory still, but if I play well I've got a good shot. I need to get myself within probably 300,000 to 400,000 Euros to have a real chance”.
He also stated that he always likes to visit Singapore, and especially the venue course at the Sentosa Golf Club.
For the last two years, the tournament is being played at the Serapong and Tanjong Courses. This year, the tournament will be played at only the Serapong Course.
“Singapore is great, I love it,” he said. “...You've got Universal Studios just down the road so I'll definitely be bringing the family”.
