Louis Oosthuizen eyeing the second major title victory at the US Open
The 2010 Open Champion, Louis Oosthuizen is headed to the Olympic Club, with the aim of recording the second major title victory of his career when he will tee off at the US Open, scheduled from June 14 to 17, 2012.
Oosthuizen has won a couple of events so far during the 2012 golf season and also came close to victory in the opening major event, the Masters Tournament. However, he lost to Bubba Watson in the sudden death playoffs.
Despite the great start to the season this year, he has lost his form in the past few weeks and missed the cuts three times in the last four events that he has played.
Therefore, he is no more a favourite for this week’s event at the challenging Lake Course at Olympic Club.
"I'm probably not where I want to be going into the U.S. Open but I feel like I am really close," Oosthuizen told Reuters on a sun-drenched afternoon at the Olympic Club on Monday.
"The season has been good, it's just the last month that I haven't really felt comfortable over the golf ball. I've worked on a few things and I feel a lot better now".
According to Oosthuizen, he is pleased with his overall performances in the season. However, just needs to tweak his game in order to return to his form that can help him contend for the last two rounds too.
He believes that he can repeat the same performances that he gave in the Shell Houston Open and the Masters Tournament, where he finished third and second, respectively.
"Overall, I am very happy with the season," the South African and the world number 16 said. "I've just got to take it on from here and try to do the same that I did in Houston and Augusta".
While talking to the media in a press conference on Tuesday, he admitted that the conditions at the course are really difficult and recording pars will be a good score at the Lake Course.
For the opening two rounds, he is grouped with American Jason Dufner and Australian Jason Day, who will start on the back nine of the course on Thursday.
