Louis Oosthuizen fights-off the wind and the competition with a tough 67
Louis Oosthuizen seemed to be in complete control of the second round wind-assault.
The Africa Open is currently in its intermediate stages and already has a cult of three tough golfers tied at the top.
Those fighting for the € 158,500 apex concluded the second round with a score of minus 10 and grabbed a shared place at T1. The top cult includes the likes of, Brendan Grace, Markus Brier and Miles Tunnicliff who holds a one stroke front till now.
However, the apex fight is also threatened by several other players which include the presence of Louis Oosthuizen, an Open Champion.
Oosthuizen is the winner of the British Open and has carded a brilliant 67 after his second round. With an under par of 6, Oosthuizen fought off a 34-mph wind and managed to card one brilliant eagle at hole number one of the East London GC.
Oosthuizen was following Grace’s and Tunnicliff’s 69 and Brier’s 66.
Other than the 28-year-old golfer chasing the one shot deficit, Jaco van Zyl and Ross McGowan also joined his pace and carded a brilliant score of 70 and 69 after round 2.
The South African and the English played a total of 137 strokes and witnessed Elliot Saltman unblemished at the 7th place of the leader board.
“I don’t mind the wind. I think the course is designed this way and I hope it stays this way too” said Oosthuizen.
The golfer said that the conditions forced him to play a rather high amount of shot-making and he had to use a 7 iron from 100 meters.
“I think the fields still offered some birdies” he said.
The 28-year-old South African carded a total of 5 birdies and one astounding Eagle. His Outbound observed three birdies from hole number 3, 4 and 9 resulting in 32 while the Inbound ended with a 35 after 2 birdies from hole number 11 and 16.
As for the leaders, they dealt with the wind like winners. Grace stood with 6, Tunnicliff with 8 and Brier with 8 birdies as well after the second round ended on Friday.
The trio collected nine bogeys in total as Grace added 2, Brier recorded 3 and Tunnicliff ended his game with 4 bogeys.
"My win from the European Tour had been windy too. I guess wind suits me” said Tunnicliff from the leading cult.
As for Grace, he found the gusts rather helpful.
“It really wasn’t a problem. You just have to find the right balance and stance at that time, its a bit different” he said.
The third round of the Africa open will commence today on Saturday and is a 4-round event stretched over the weekend.
