Louis Oosthuizen picked as Golfer of the Month
Louis Oosthuizen earned the Golfer of the Month award for April, by the European Tour, for showing a stunning performance at the MayBank Malaysian Open.
The 29-year-old South African golfer is the winner of the event in Malaysia. He amazed all his fans, spectators and tour officials by scoring enormously at the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club in Kuala Lumpur.
On April 8, he faced an unexpected defeat in playoff at the hand of Bubba Watson, in the Masters Tournament. He played a tremendous game at the Augusta, however, Watson's early birdie benefitted him.
Just four days later, Oosthuizen played the European Tour staged event in Malaysia. He reached the top of the leaderboard for scoring 66, 68, 69 and 68 in the four rounds.
He recorded two bogey-free rounds, as he shot 20 impressive birdies and one massive eagle. His amazing score took him to the top of the leaderboard and he won the title by a three-stroke margin.
Since turning professional in 2002, Oosthuizen has recorded his fifth European Tour victory at the MayBank Malaysian Open. He earned the South African The Race to Dubai European Tour Golfer of the Month Award for April, for an appealing performance and an
unexpected victory
He felt sad after losing the Masters by a close margin. He wanted to record his second major victory, but failed. However, he surprised his fans in Malaysia and also earned the most respected award.
“I was a little surprised to win here after that. I thought I was going to be a lot more tired," Oosthuizen said after winning on April 15. "I played well. The game was there so it makes it a lot easier. I had a good week. This morning probably was a bit
up and down - not going too well - but then I settled in a bit for the second 18".
Oosthuizen earned €1,293,705 in 2012, and now he also holds the second position at the European Tour Race to Dubai rankings.
He has ample chances to secure the top position, as his earning is quite close to the current no.1 Race to Dubai player Rory McIlroy, who has earned €1,348,517 so far.
