Louis Oosthuizen takes command of WGC-HSBC Champions
Louis Oosthuizen took control of the WGC-HSBC Champions, as he shot another blistering round at the Missions Hill.
The South African shot 9-under 63, which is not only the best round to this date but it also set a new 36-hole record at the World Golf Champions.
The 2010 British Open champion and the overnight’s co-leader could not shoot a flawless round. Nonetheless, he sits comfortably with a lead of five strokes after round two of the championship.
The 30-year-old knows that more is yet to come over the weekend. Although he has a healthy lead, but in a field like this, anybody can pull up surprises.
"I'm in a great position to win, but it's not even crossed my mind at the moment," Oosthuizen said. "There's still a lot of golf to be played - I need to put myself in a great position going down the back nine on Sunday."
Ernie Els and Adam Scott follow the South African they are tied at 11-under for the tournament.
Ernie was in his zone today. He birdied six of the first seven holes and went on to shoot a flawless round. Meanwhile, Adam Scott was slightly off colour today, as he shot 4-under 68 for the day.
The Swede Peter Hanson also did not have the best of days. He slumped to T12 after carding a 1-under 71.
Hanson is the closest rival of McIlroy in the Race to Dubai and, with the world number one not in the field, the Swede has a great chance to close the gap.
Oosthuizen did not have the best of starts for the day, as he bogeyed the second hole but soon recovered. The world number eleven birdied the 3rd, 5th and then went on to eagle the 7th hole.
Moreover, his four birdies on the four consecutive holes from the 8th to the 11th really did the trick for him.
Just like the previous round, he once again took advantage of the par-5s, which are the key to success on the Olazabal Course.
He shot four birdies and an eagle on the five par-5s. If he shoots two more rounds in the mid 60s, then WGC-HSBC Champions is his to win.
