Louis van Gaal has expressed confidence in his squad’s quality to adapt perfectly to the ‘Dutch School’ football, by fielding a 4-3-3 formation in the 2014 World Cup qualification campaign.
The Flying Dutchmen played a 4-2-3-1 formation under the leadership of Bert van Marwijk at UEFA Euro 2012. Although, the Oranje entered as the pre-tournament favourites, three defeats in a row against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Portugal-c2984
kicked them out of the competition from the group stages.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Royal-95-c40387 Dutch Football Association (KNVB) dismissed Van Marwijk, and appointed the former Bayern Munich boss as the new coach of the Oranje.
Van Gaal’s Netherlands suffered a 4-2 defeat at the hands of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Belgium-c2850 in his first game in charge, and now awaits a stern test against Turkey in his side’s first game of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers on September 7.
The veteran Dutch tactician has made it clear that he will be deploying the 4-3-3 formation, while expressing confidence that the players should be able to adapt to this style with ease, as most of the clubs in the highest echelon
of Dutch football play in the same formation.
“The KNVB gave me a clear mission to play 'Dutch School' football and with the quality of this squad that must be possible. In the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Netherlands-c753, where a lot of these players play, this system is used a lot”, Van Gaal was quoted
as saying to uefa.com.
The Dutch mentor, who started his professional coaching career in the 1991/92 season at Ajax, preferred http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robin-van-Persie-c31380 in his first game in charge, but has made it clear that he will not continue using
the Schalke star, if his poor form continues.
“That can change after one match because the team is more important than 11 Huntelaars or 11 Van Persies. The competition [between players] is important. When a team already is set in stone, you lose that aspect”, Van Gaal concluded.
