Louisa Ma treads into Women’s Singles quarter-final – Victorian International Update
Australia’s Louisa Ma outclassed Ting Yin Chen in second round of Li Ning Victorian International and secured a spot in the quarter-final round on June 29, 2012.
Though, this pre quarter-final encounter lasted for just 38 minutes but both contenders played their heart out to place final figures of 20-22, 22-20 and 21-5.
The Taipei campaigner displayed commendable fighting skills and walked tall despite losing final sets of the match.
Meanwhile, Louisa Ma showed strong character in this nerve-racking tussle and sealed a splendid 2-1 victory.
Now she is scheduled to meet compatriot shuttler Jennifer Tam in round of eight and badminton critics are giving her better odds in the next challenge.
Earlier in second round match, she struggled to read her rival’s game in first set and lost a vital match point.
First sign of trouble came when Yin Chen made a swift progress by prevailing in four rallies in a row.
She made difference by reaching at a dominating position of 8-5 and then left her competitor far behind with 11-7 margin.
Later part of the game saw her making some mistakes which resulted in 16-16 total in the third quarter.
However, she did not lose nerves and matched her challenger’s skills all the way to game point situation. She managed to finish first set with a tight yet favourable margin of 22-20.
The following game was also played in similar fashion but luck was not on Taipei shuttler’s side and she missed golden opportunity of a straight-set win.
Louisa Ma, who was ranked fourth in this home event, switched on the best after finding herself one down. She put all in her possession and successfully avoided a 2-0 defeat.
In first half, she was bit conscious in start but couple of fruitful rallies boosted her confidence. She fetched maximum benefits of this initial advantage and bagged first half with respectable figure of 11-8.
After the break, she masterly overcame Yin Chen and finished this race with 22-20 score on the board.
The decider turned one-sided affair unexpectedly as the local shuttler Louisa Ma hardly faced any hurdle en-route to victory. She earned the right to play quarter-final with an overwhelming result of 21-5.
