Louisiana State University’s Patrick Peterson not sure about attending NFL Draft
Louisiana State University cornerback Patrick Peterson is not sure if he will be attending the National Football League (NFL) Draft in April 2011.
“I don't know,” Peterson said during an interview. “My family and I are weighing the pros and the cons.”
A few professional football analysts have Peterson being picked number one overall in their mock drafts, but if he is picked first, does he know that he will be the first cornerback to ever accomplish such a feat?
“Definitely. I'm aware,” he said.
Even with all of the praise for him, doesn’t Peterson get tired of hearing about it so much?
“A little bit,” he said. “I am trying to take it one day at a time, and then on April 28, see where I am going to be.”
Peterson is ranked as one of the top picks in April’s NFL Draft and has promised himself that he will not be taking any looks at mock drafts until the draft is over.
However, his friends do not let him keep his word, occasionally dropping hints as to where he was ranked on the most recent mock draft. Peterson said that he is just waiting for April 28 to come around so that the draft can be started and then finished.
Until then, nothing else really matters.
In 2008, his freshman year at LSU, Peterson started in all 13 games that he played in and had a total of 41 tackles, along with two tackles. He also had one interception and one forced fumble.
In his sophomore year, Peterson once again started in all 13 games and had 52 total tackles. He also had two interceptions that were returned for a total of 37 yards, one of which was returned for a touchdown, and recovered a fumble.
In his junior year, 2010, Peterson started in all 11 games that he played in and had 33 tackles, 1.5 tackles for a loss and four interceptions that were returned for a total of 134 yards, averaging 25.3 yards per interception. He also returned 26 punts for
a total of 418 yards and two touchdowns and returned 25 kickoffs for 688 yards. His performance in 2010 earned him many awards including the Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Year award.
