Louisiana State University’s Sam Montgomery will miss the rest of the season
Louisiana State University starting defensive end Sam Montgomery will miss the rest of the season with torn ligaments in his right knee.
Montgomery was injured in the first quarter of the Tigers 16-14 win over the Tennessee Volunteers last week. LSU’s head coach Les Miles said that the team had scheduled Montgomery for reconstructive surgery, but that the youngster would not be able to re-join
the team until at least next fall.
LSU is certain to miss Montgomery, who is a major part of the team’s pass rush defence. Moreover, the Tigers have been tremendous on defence throughout the young season, only allowing an average of 12.4 points per game, which is good enough for 5th
in the nation in points-against. The loss of Montgomery is certain to hurt the defence as they head into a very difficult conference game against the Florida Gators on the weekend.
Moreover, several questions have been raised about LSU’s coaching throughout the early part of the week, after the Tigers were only able to secure a two-point win over Tennessee on Saturday. In the game against the Volunteers, the Tigers were down 14-10
to Tennessee with the clock ticking down. The Tigers' head coach Miles did a terrible job of managing the clock throughout the final drive and when his club finally got into the red zone they only had enough time for one play.
LSU failed on their attempt to take the win, only to find out that the Volunteers had one too many players on the field, meaning the Tigers got one more play with zero seconds on the clock. The Tigers were able to score, sneaking out a lucky win for their
coach.
This season with the Tigers Montgomery managed 18 tackles, six tackles for a loss and two sacks.
