Louk Sorensen, Evgeny Donskoy clear second qualifier round – Mercedes Cup 2011
Ranked at world No.154, Evgeny Donskoy played his match of the 2ndqualifier of the Mercedes Cup against Sebastian Sachs, ranked world No. 1321, in TC Weissenhof, Stuttgart on 10th July. The match was played
on classic clay courts. Statically both the players, Donskoy from Russia and Sebastian from Germany, were proving players of clay.
The match was started by the 19 year old German serving first. Considered perfectionist in serve, the German aced the Russian five times in the first set with a total of twelve service winner and eight return points. However, the
Russian won eighteen service and ten returns points to bag the first set. Securing 28 total points to 20 against the 19-year-old German, Donskoy won the first set 6-2 securing a 1-0 lead in the match.
Clearing his way in the second set as well, the Russian secured a spot in the final qualifiers of the Mercedes cup by winning the 2nd set and the match 6-2, 6-4.
Following Donskoy on the court was Louk Sorensen of Ireland as he took on Jan Hernych of Czech Republic. Toiling for one hour and eighteen minutes the Irish secured a 6-2, 6-2 win as he made his way to the next qualifier.
Serving first, the world No. 497 dominated throughout the game. Playing brilliantly, the 26 year old gave no room to the Czech world No.223 as he took the first set 6-2. Winning 16 service points and 15 return points, the 26-year-old
took away the set with a total of 31 points to 18.
The second set was no different than the first one as Louk won with the same score. Securing fifteen service point winners and 29 return points in the second set, the Irish recorded another win over the Czech making his way to
the 3rd round of the Mercedes Cup qualifiers. The 26-year-old is hoping to walk away with the E-class keys in his pocket this season.
Sorensen and Donskoy will be playing each other in the final qualifying round for a spot in the main draw.
The event is part of the ATP World Tour 250 series. The winner gets prize money of € 398,250 and a brand new Mercedes, truly a motivational factor for any player. The 2010 champion, Spaniard Albert Montanes drove his winning E-class
