Despite being in such a good position, Montpellier Herault president, Loulou Nicollin is a bit pessimistic about his side’s chances of playing in the UEFA Champions League next campaign
On Sunday, Montpellier Herault travel to Ile to face Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes. The match is already being called a six-pointer as the league’s top two teams battle it out for sitting at the Ligue 1 summit.
Currently, Montpellier chase Carlo Ancelotti’s PSG by a solitary point and a win for any team will give them real hope of winning the Championelle.
Throughout the campaign, Montpellier have been one of the most consistent sides in Ligue 1. Though they are in second place, one can called Rene Girard’s side as one of the most exciting teams in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899.
The game against PSG would be a big test of how far La Paillade have come and Loulou Nicollin is being extremely cautious over his side’s chances of playing in the UEFA Champions League next season.
Though they are in a very good position, Nicollin knows that anything can happen in the final few weeks of the Championnat. Last campaign, Stade Rennais were in an almost identical situation before their season derailed and they finally ended with only a
place in the Europa League to show for their efforts.
“I’m like d**n, as long as it happens, we have to say there. But deep down, I’m afraid that it will not work out. All these thoughts consume and annoy me. We are in second and I’m afraid of losing and tumbling down, ooh, it is hard,” says a dramatic Nicollin
who has asked everyone to keep their feet on the ground.
Yet a few lines later, the colourful chairman of Montpellier delivered his prognosis of a shock in the making when his side faces Paris Saint-Germain.
“It is my intuition that we will win at the Parc and then there will be a very difficult match against Bordeaux the following week,” says Nicollin who seems to have become a psychic in a matter of weeks.
Hopefully, for the sake of Montpellier and its fans, Nicollin’s prediction for Sunday proves to be a right one.
