Remarkable and prolific since the beginning of the campaign, Montpellier Herault striker Olivier Giroud could see himself earn a big-money move this summer. However, president Loulou Nicollin has something else on his mind
The crazy rise of a serial goalscorer is something that’s very rare. What’s even more rare is the fact that the rise is not just reminiscent to a one-hit wonder. Arrived at Montpellier after plying his trade in the lower echelons of French football, Olivier
Giroud has seen an amazing change in his fortunes in the past 18 months or so.
After spending two seasons with Ligue 2 side Tours, Giroud did not have any trouble in adapting to top-flight football in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899. The 2011/2012 Ligue 1 campaign couldn’t have been any better for the striker. 14 goals in 19 games have made Giroud one of the
most potent and efficient strikers in France.
Naturally, his exploits haven’t gone unnoticed. Darling of the Mosson public, the 25-year-old is living a dream and is now a France international. So much has been his popularity, a departure in the summer transfer window looks anything but a utopia.
Some sources suggest that the player has a clause on his contract estimated at 10 million Euros, an amount that is pretty much affordable to English clubs like Newcastle United who have started a mission of signing any striker they can get their hands on.
However, Montpellier president, Loulou Nicollin has decided to step into the breach regarding the player’s contract clause.
Though the Montpellier supremo is not looking to be a hurdle in Giroud’s way towards an exit, the outspoken president has ensured that the what’s written in the clause is more complicated than it seems.
While talking on Montpellier’s official website, Loulou said that it (clause) is not as simple as it seems.
“The fact that Olivier is now a France international involves changes in his clause, as future selections or even a possible participation in Euro. Nothing is fixed, the amount may increase depending on various parameters. Today, the amount is more than
16 to 20 million Euros, and everything can change again. Olivier grew up with us, he became French international in the colours of Montpellier which is a pride for the club.”
These statements simply mean that though Nicollin knows he will see the striker depart, he will certainly not go on a cheap price.
