Lourdes Dominguez Lino downs Mariana Duque-Marino in round one – Nurnberger Versicherungscup 2013
Sixth seed, Lourdes Dominguez Lino, triumphed over the Colombian contestant, Mariana Duque-Marino, in straight sets at the Nurnberger Versicherungscup 2013 on Tuesday. She notched up a 7-5, 6-3 victory against
the Colombian to progress into the second round at this WTA International event taking place in Nurnberg, Germany.
The Spanish star stayed focused throughout the match to outclass Duque-Mariana in their second encounter. The challengers last battled each other at the XX Copa BBVA Colsanitas in Bogota last season and after
registering this victory, Dominguez Lino not only avenged her loss but also booked a spot in the round of 16.
Dominguez Lino made a strong entry at this clay court event and drew the first blood in the opening game to take the initial lead. She lost her edge in the very next game but broke again to take the lead once
more. The Spanish seed squandered her edge afterwards but stayed focused. She got the breakthrough in the end and pulled out the opener with a 7-5 score line.
Ranked 50th in the WTA Premier Rankings, Dominguez Lino lifted her game in the following set. She cashed two early break opportunities and jumped to a 5-2 lead. Despite losing her serve
in the proceeding game, the Spaniard maintained her intensity and converted another break chance to her advantage in the last game. As a result, Dominguez Lino sealed the set by winning six games to three.
Overall, the Spanish star spilled fewer double faults and produced a better first serve ratio of 62 per cent in contrast to the Colombian’s 56 per cent. Furthermore, Dominguez Lino impressively availed 26 out
of 38 points on it and finished the match with 77 points.
Up next for the Spaniard is the winner of the match between Luxembourg’s Mandy Minella and the American challenger, Jessica Pegula. If the Spaniard improve her defences and ward off breakpoints she came across,
she can reach far in this event.
The eighth seed, Annika Beck, also stole the show later that day. She eased past the Portuguese challenger, Nina Bratchikova, in straight sets to advance into the next round.
