Lourdes Dominguez Lino outshines Ellen Allgurin in the opening round – Collector Swedish Open 2011
World No. 45, Lourdes Dominguez Lino easily made it to the second round of the 2011 Collector Swedish Open after beating Sweden’s Ellen Allgurin in straight sets with a 6-3 6-4 scoreline.
Fourth-seeded Dominguez Lino, who is chasing her first Bastaad title beat the 17-year-old Allgurin in straight sets and surged into the second round of the 2011 Collector Swedish Open, a WTA World Tour Event, played at Bastaad,
Sweden.
The fourth-seeded Lino possessed a big serve and a mighty forehand, helping her save critical break points in the decisive games of both the sets. The 30-year-old Barcelonan was playing out of her skin, going for and making huge
shots off both her forehand and backhand wing and giving Allgurin a much tougher outing than surely she would have expected.
But there was no yelling and raving from the fourth-seeded, who was urging herself on almost cautiously, and she took her chances when Allgurin wobbled for the first time, although playing an defensive game.
She played at a high level during the whole match and in the first set she was quite dominant on her first serve. The problem was her second serve being easily countered by the Spaniard. The world No. 45 was keeping the pressure
on by dominating her serves with ease. All Dominguez Lino needed was the one shaky service game from Allgurin and the set was over at 6-3.
The second set was more of the same as Dominguez Lino held with ease, demonstrating her dominant forehand and waiting for her opportunity to break. Allgurin served 63 percent of her first serve in the second set and won 45 percent
of those points, but it only took one subpar game and Dominguez Lino capitalized to close out the match 6-4. The match lasted a little over an hour and demonstrated just how difficult Dominguez Lino can be when she is serving well.
Looming up victorious in her first round match against the Swede, Lino has updated her year-to-date win/loss mark to 15/14 matches and now leads the heat-to-head series 1-0 against the Swede.
Striding into the second round with a straight sets first round win, the Spaniard now advances into the second round of the tournament where she will lock horns with either compatriot Arantxa Parra Santonja or Ukraine’s Tetyana
Arefyeva.
