  1. All hotels in Lourdes are American friendly, as they are used to dealing with pilgrims from all over the world.  Most have English speaking staff, so you won't have any problems there.

Lourdes has a huge number of hotels of all different price ranges.  Check the Lourdes Tourist website for accommodation: http://www.lourdes-infotourisme.com/uk/  Just be aware that Lourdes will be more crowded than usual this year as it's the 150th anniversary of the Apparitions.  So accommodation choices for September might be a bit limited.

If you're flying in from the US, get a flight arriving in Paris, then take the TGV train from Paris to Lourdes.

  2. The best way to visit France is to go on a tour.  Trust me!

Especially if you're a college student , like me...it works out to be WAAYYY cheaper.  Plus, you get to hang out with a bunch of college students while you travel.

For the best cheap college student vacations, check out:

Plus, if you enter manager code: gavrie6237 when you book,

they'll give you a $50.00 discount on top of the already cheap price.

It's safer, smarter, chaeaper, and more fun to do it this way.

  3. The nearest airport is Lourdes-Tarbes but there are no direct flights from the US and if you book from here you will probably have 2 or 3 layovers. You might be better off booking to Paris or another capital city in Europe that has direct flights to Lourdes. From Paris you can also take a train instead.

Here is info on direct European flights to Lourdes: http://www.tarbes-lourdes.aeroport.fr/GB...

As for hotels I don't know what you mean by American friendly. All hotels love Americans because they tip well (which Europeans don't do since it is not required). If you mean a hotel with a lot of amenities and large rooms, then choose an international chain, but they are 3 times more expensive than smaller owner-run hotels. I have never stayed in Lourdes so I cannot help except by giving you the link to their tourist office website, which will list all types of accomodation available. To get reviews on the hotels listed I think you'll have better luck on sites like tripadvisor.com than here.

The tourist office website can also give you info on how to get from the airport to the town and much more. Check all their pages and e-mail them if you don't find what you are looking for.
